Dollywood BBQ & Bluegrass Festival 2018

Whether you spell it “barbeque” or “barbecue”, you’re talking about finger-lickin’ goodness! During Dollywood’s Bluegrass and Barbecue Festival, you’ll find some incredible & fresh BBQ chicken and pork throughout the park.

The absolute best place, though, is in Market Square (where the large fountain was located up until this year) where numerous grills are setup and grilling the freshest barbecue in town!

They typically offer a sample platter, which is what we suggest to give you the best taste of everything they have to offer. It’s absolutely delicious and something we look forward to every year!

Sevierville's 11th Annual Bloomin' BBQ & Bluegrass Festival 2018

Friday May 18th from 5pm to 10pm
Saturday, May 19th from 9am to 10pm

Sevierville's Bloomin’ Barbeque & Bluegrass is a family oriented event celebrating the beauty of spring, championship barbeque and world class bluegrass music. Bloomin’ Barbeque & Bluegrass takes place during Smoky Mountain Springfest in historic downtown Sevierville, Tennessee. Our Barbeque Cook-Off is an official barbeque championship of the state of Tennessee and is coordinated by the Sevierville Chamber of Commerce.

This family-friendly event will once again bring barbeque cook teams from all over the United States to Sevierville to compete for $17,500 in cash and prizes and the title of Tennessee State Champion in the Bush’s Best TN State Championship Cook Off. Rounding out the event is toe-tapping bluegrass music, incredible arts and crafts, kids’ games and the Mountain Soul Vocal Competition honoring Sevierville’s favorite hometown girl, Dolly Parton.

Take a little time to visit with the barbeque cook teams you’ve seen on cable channels like the Food Network as you stroll through the “Que Zone.” Then make sure you bring a lawn chair for the free bluegrass concerts with rising stars and legends of the bluegrass genre.

On Saturday, the competition starts early. Watch as championship cook teams turn in their competition meats. Then stay for the announcement of BBQ champs at 4pm. During the competition the teams will cook an estimated 2,832 pounds of meat including 20 pounds of pulled pork, 24 pounds of brisket, 5 pounds of chicken and 10 pounds of ribs each. Winning teams will receive recognition in Chicken, Ribs, Pork and Brisket as well as specialty categories like “Anything Bush Beans”, “Anything Swaggerty’s Farm Sausage”, Sauce and Dessert.

An expanded Kids’ Zone and the Bluegrass Music Tent, sponsored in part by The Music Outlet, add fun and enrichment for the kids and families who attend Bloomin’ Barbeque & Bluegrass. The Kids’ Zone includes attractions like climbing walls, bounce houses and old-time toys while the Bluegrass Music Tent gives kids (and kids at heart) the chance to touch and play bluegrass instruments such as banjos, fiddles and more (don’t worry, instructors will be on site to help). Both of these attractions will be open until 9pm each day of the event.

A highlight of Bloomin’ Barbeque & Bluegrass is the 11th Annual Mountain Soul Vocal Competition Finals held on May 16. Finalists from around the nation will sing their hearts out for a chance to win prize money, a recording session in Nashville, Tennessee and a guitar autographed by Dolly Parton. This competition, the only one of its kind that festival organizers know of, honors the songwriting of Dolly Parton. Competitors, male and female, must sing a song written by Dolly Parton (there are over 3,000) and do so in their own style (rock, rap, country, bluegrass, swing, soul, etc.).

So if you are looking for a delicious meal and toe tapping fun filled evening then these two days of fun will be sure to please all! Call us today and come out and enjoy two evening of delicious family fun!

Young Experts Program
A major addition to this year’s Wilderness Wildlife Week is the Young Experts Program (YEP). This special incentive program has been designed to provide youth ages 12 and younger an immersive and unique way to learn about wildlife, wilderness, old-time arts, area history, Appalachian culture and to connect to the great outdoors. More than 125 classes and excursions are available in this inaugural year.  Session attendance and participation also allow each youth participating the opportunity to receive credit to redeem for free gifts for participating in the program. Gifts include coloring books, teddy bears, Frisbees and other special prizes and treats.  Complete information will be available in the Event Program Guide and at the Information Desk during Wilderness Wildlife Week

First-Ever Film Race Competition
Another major addition for this year’s Wilderness Wildlife Week is the first-ever 48 Hour Film Race. The total prize money up for grabs in the contests and categories is $1,500. Please note this is a family-friendly event and entries featuring profanity or nudity will not be accepted.  For the 48 Hour Film Race, the contest theme will be announced during Wilderness Wildlife Week at 10 AM on Tuesday, May 8 in Greenbriar Hall C. Those participating have until 10 AM on Thursday, May 10 to submit their short films (no longer than 3 minutes) for judging and showcasing. All submissions will be shown with winners announced beginning at 4:45 PM on Saturday, May 12 in Greenbriar Hall C.

Wilderness Wildlife Week Photography Contest Goes to Digital Display Format
For our photography friends, there are some major changes for this year’s photography contest. For the first time ever, submissions for the contest will be digital only. What this means is the contest will no longer display printed images for judging and will be a Digital Display Photography Contest. This change has been made for a myriad of reasons as we know it will make the contest easier and more affordable to enter. Additionally, the categories and submission guidelines have also changed.  Additionally, there will be special physical photography displays you do not want to miss!
